Owner Jeab Prapunwong, has finally fulfilled a dream he had a long time ago, to bring a great Thai restaurant to the banks of Newcastle.

Mantra Thai owner – Jeab

Mr Prapunwong, who has had a long history at Waterside, firstly as a waiter, wanted to do the restaurant justice in restoring it to its former glory.

“The Waterside Palace in Newcastle has always been a place where people come for celebrations, when people want a special meal and where memories are created… Over the years, there have been many proposals, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas parties here! I want to establish Mantra Thai Dining in this way too, and also introduce Thai food to people who are unfamiliar with our culture in a comfortable, luxury setting.”

Hailing from Hua Hin, Thailand, Jeab came to UK in 1997 for his Master’s degree and stayed after getting married and having a family.

He has ran a few restaurants over the years, but this is his first Thai Restaurant venture.

‘I have always wanted to set up a Thai restaurant in Newcastle, having many contacts in the community, but either timing or location was never quite right until this time, and The Waterside Palace is the perfect place to show off our Thai dishes, in a traditional Riverside setting.”

Our own mantra is ‘Food is an art, Cook from the heart’. This is our philosophy and we use this to drive us forward every day!
